Caring For Your Baby Boy; New Moms Need To Learn How
|
There's so much to get used to when caring for your baby boy; new Moms may never have seen male genitalia up close up before. Certainly, the odds are that this will be the first time that new Moms of baby boys have ever WASHED male genitalia before. Now all off a sudden they have a baby boy; new moms can be daunted by the idea that this new human being relies totally on them. Add to that the fact they know they must thoroughly and carefully wash and clean their son's genitalia to prevent soreness, infection and illness, then it can be quite a worry. But you can soon learn to look after your baby boy; new moms just have to show some common sense and a gentle hand. Here are a few guidelines that will help, though: Intimate hygiene is very important for baby boys; new Moms need to wash the genitals regularly - at each and every diaper change. Use clean, warm water. Then comes the bit that scares Moms sometimes; baby boys have parts they don't. What's more, they have folds that are completely alien to women. They have foreskin! It's really important in caring for a baby boy: new moms need to gently move the foreskin off the head of the penis to clean away the smegma that accumulates there. It looks like a fatty deposit and should not be allowed to build up or it will cause soreness. Sometimes, the baby boy's foreskin may be too narrow to allow the head of the penis to be bared in this way. If this is the case with your baby boy, new parents should consult their doctor immediately. This problem can be easily rectified with a small surgical incision into the foreskin. This is not a circumcision. If the baby boy's skin is sensitive, then you may just wash the genitals with damp or oiled gauze. However, to maintain high hygiene levels for a baby boy, new parents should use soap at least one every four days for intimate washing. If your baby boy is circumcised: For religious or medical reasons, circumcision may be carried out on a baby boy; new parents need to be aware of the special intimate hygiene care they should take to clean a circumcised baby boy. For the first twenty-four to thirty-six hours after circumcision, you may not be cleaning the area, and only applying small ice packs to numb the area and reduce discomfort. This will also lessen the bleeding oozing which may occur after circumcision. For the first four days after circumcision, you should be meticulous with hygiene for your baby boy; new parents may not think to wash their hands BEFORE a diaper change, to avoid passing on infection, but it is really important. You should use soap and water on your hands, but for the first four days - do not put soap near the circumcised penis. In addition, put a gauze with petroleum jelly on the penis tip to protect it. Only use clean water - and very gentle washing - for the first four days after circumcision. After that, use petroleum jelly directly to the tip of the circumcised penis for the next couple of days; there should be no need to use gauze. The circumcised penis will take between a week and ten days to heal properly. So when you bring home a baby boy, new parents should no longer be worried about carrying out intimate care for their son. Following just these few tips will enable a new parent to take care of their baby's every intimate hygiene need. |
