Motherhood is the golden period of every women's life. It not only gives her a never before experience of becoming a mother but also helps her in coming to terms with the power to create bestowed within her. The nine months she spends in pregnancy is the time when a life takes shape inside her womb. This is one of the best experiences of a woman's life. These nine months are divided into three sets of three months each, known as trimesters.

First Trimester

The first trimester is the crucial time because at this time the baby develops at a rapid rate.

It all begins with a sperm fertilizing an egg. Within half an hour the egg starts to divide and these eggs start to travel to the uterus in order to develop and grow. When the third week comes the embryo is formed and a little heart begins beating. The end of the fourth week brings in the development of a head with a growing brain inside. Buds start to develop which will further grow into hands and legs.

The fifth week brings in signs of eyes, nose and ears. The head, body and limbs can move with a little stimulation. In the remaining weeks the outlines of all the internal and external structures begin to develop.

The third month begins with the a stronger beating of the heart. The face is more developed with the eyes now separated and the baby develops a better sense of smell. The baby starts to move but the mother cannot experience it.

Second Trimester

The second trimester begins with an active development of the head as compared to the rest of the body. A well defined face is now created with the formation of mouth, nose and ears. The eyes now sense light and the baby even reacts to the sounds. The fifth month starts with the baby moving so strongly that the mother can experience it. Even his/her fingers start to move now. After the fifth month, the baby can really hear things.

Third Trimester

The nervous system is so much developed by the seventh month that the body temperature and the respiratory functions are controlled now. The lungs are now fully developed for breathing and the muscles are stronger. The baby will start reacting to different sounds and will start seeing things now. The baby will react differently to different sounds and different lights

The eight month will see a fully formed nervous system and the ninth month will see continuous development and growth till the time of the birth.

During these trimesters the baby will not only develop physically but will also develop mentally to survive in the real world.
